Hello!
Yes, I have completed the Web 2.0 training! - I'm one of those neat freaks who likes to get everything in order before I start anything, so my 23 blogs are all lined up ready to go and at this moment I've completed all my blogs - yay!
I thought I'd better put this in cos apparently people are reading my blogs (go figure!) and they are thinking to themselves "Wow, she's done everything!", but then they open blog 21 and think "Whatthe! is this written in invisible ink or something? ..."
Anywayz gotta go ...

#23. Is this really the end? Or just the beginning ...
Wednesday 28 January, 2009.
Is this really the end? Yes it is!
Wow! Congratulate me ... I've reached the 23rd thing. Yes, the experience has enhanced my Web 2.0 skills - it has provided me with the information and knowledge to provide better service to our customers and it has been a fun and rewarding experience along the way ...
I'm giving myself a pat on the back for completing the program while I type this out with one finger (heh heh).
Do I still get my cool USB bracelet even though this is overdue by 4 months? Aye, do I? ...
Anywayz, I'm signing off now - I have to complete my survey and then I'm done! So as a final aside ... It's been real ...

#22. eBooks (a.k.a the end is in sight ...)
Friday 23 January, 2009.
Oh my gosh!
I tried looking for my favourite authors on Project Gutenburg but it kept coming up with "Error - No author found" - what happened to Jamie Oliver? Rick Stein? Gordan Ramsey even?!? ... I gave up after a while and headed for the Top 100 - as of today the Top 100 Ebooks downloaded yesterday was 'The Inaugural Presidential Address by Barrack Obama' with 1379 downloads.
I also had a look at ebooks.com and *wow* the stuff you can download - pity you have to pay for it, although I guess it is a bit cheaper than buying the book, but still ...

#21. Podcasts (You don't need an iPod!)
Wednesday 28 January, 2009.
Check it out ... Podcast.com is awesome!
There were heaps of subjects to whet anyones apetite/fetish/obsession, especially mine for food - so I checked out Crash Test Kitchen (Videos) http://podcast.com/show/712/, which I added to my bloglines account. At the time I was looking at this podcast they had recorded 74 episodes so far.
"Crash Test Kitchen is the ORIGINAL video cooking podcast, as featured in Time magazine. CTK is about real people cooking real food. We're Waz and Lenny, two foodies who can't stay out of the kitchen. Unlike other cooking shows, there's no here's-one-we-prepared-earlier fakery, we share our disasters as well as our triumphs, and we'll beat eggs with a power drill to get the job done (which I thought was quite funny - just like Bob the Builder!). Join us and be confident that if we can cook it, you can too!"
I also checked out a Book review site - I searched for Book review as a subject heading and picked the first one to pop up which was Nancy Pearl Book Review Podcast http://podcast.com/show/7077/, which I also added to my bloglines account.
Apparently Nancy Pearl is a librarian with a love of books so strong it has been officially classified as lust (wassup with that - or as I should say what the!).

#20. discover YouTube and a few sites that allow users to upload and share videos
Thursday 22 January, 2009.
Woo hoo ... YouTube Rocks!
It's amazing the stuff they have on YouTube - I decided to do a search for one of my favourite actor/singer/comedians - Jack Black (he's awesome!).
Some of the video titles were a bit 'riske' so those ones I flagged (coz hello - Big Brother is watching!). I thought the Gladys Knight skit he did with Ben Stiller and the dude who played Ironman was quite funny.
One thing I found a bit frustrating about the site was the constant stop/start playing during the clips ... aaarrrrggggghhhhhh!!!!!!! ...
I also took a look at Conan the Librarian and I only have one thing to say - dude, what's up with the late fine penalty?!?

#19. Discovering Web 2.0 tools
Thursday 22 Janurary, 2009.
Oooooooo ... Another chance to talk about food!
From the shortlist of Web 2.0 Award nominees I chose my favourite category ... what else ... Food!
I had a look at the 1st place getter imcooked - Cook it. Film it. Share it. - A web community for video recipe sharing, and as I was browsing the site the 'most viewed' video was 'Watch Christopher Walken roast a chicken' (what's up with that?!?) which was viewed 218,373 times (yikes!). I thought roasting a chicken standing on its legs a bit strange, but hey, whatever works!
Then I searched for my favourite food (if you've been following my blogs - heh, heh - yes, say it with me ... Eggs, eggs, glorious eggs!) and found how to cook a 'Cheese omelet' in under 5 minutes ... nice!

#18. Take a look at some online productivity (word processing, spreadsheets) tools
Thursday 22 January, 2009.
Yay! The end is in sight ...
I have created an account in google docs and have had a play with the applications. I have used the excel spreadsheet in the days when I used to look after the teenage services at Mangere Bridge managing the Manix competition online (aahh those were the days ... not!).
Anyway, the programs are pretty basic and if you get stuck the instructions are pretty good.

#17. Social Networking
Wednesday 21 January, 2009
Confession time ...
I have to confess that I don't have a Bebo/Facebook or MySpace site because of the fact that I don't have a computer at home and besides if my family/friends want to get in touch with me I prefer a phone call (actually it's best to leave a message on the answer phone coz I never answer the phone!).
I know these websites are all the rage for keeping in touch with friends and family but seeing as I live a solitary life (and quite frankly I have no friends, and as I keep telling everyone in my family, I'm an "only child"!) I can't see the point in creating a page for myself.
I did have a look at the video explaining how Social Networking works which was enough for me.

#16. On Library 2.0 and Web 2.0
Wednesday 21 January
Ummmm ...
I browsed through the 5 Perspectives but found most of them too technical and waffly - the article I found most fascinating was called 'A ripple effect' about how a rural school district shows how one new service in 1992 put in motion a steady wave of library support.
I found the following quotes from the article excellent advise:
When you have a program that is exceeding expectations, you have the foundation for success. Empowering the patron will empower your library.
In order for small libraries to succeed, they need to think big: Develop an innovative strategic and tactical plan, work on one tactic at a time, and eventually, you will accomplish your goals.
Quality customer service is another key to success for our library. Our goal is to make the total customer experience satisfying, pleasurable and resulting in an end product that meets or exceeds their expectations. (which I thought sounded like our Project ICE)

#15. Getting not-so-technical with Technorati
Wednesday 22 January, 2009
Dum-de-dum dum ...
Technorati looks like one huge magazine with mini articles of peoples opinions on everything. I tried doing the Learning 2.0 exercise and came up with 2,277 Blog posts, 654 Tags (not sure if I did this right coz I was checking out other Manukau bloggers and my number seems a bit on the low side!). I wasn't sure how to search the Blog directory so I gave up searching.
"Popular" blogs are divided into 7 catagories - Videos (from Youtube), Movies, News, Music, Games, DVDs and Books, all of which people are talking about right now.
I didn't 'claim' my blog coz I'm lazy and it seems like a lot of work for little gain (Doh!)

#14. Tagging, folksonomies and social bookmarking in Del.icio.us
Monday 19 January, 2009
Crikey!
I was reading 'Us.ef.ul - A beginners guide to The Next Big Thing' but it started waffling on after a while so I started scrolling down the document and then I saw this!
http://del.isio.us/beelerspace/eggs and http://del.iciio.us/tag/eggs
I had a look at the last website and gosh there are lots and lots of stuff there about eggs!
Isn't that weird, especially after just blogging about my most favourite food in the whole world ...
Anyway, as I was saying, according to John (the author of the article) if you use computers in multiple locations, say one at home and one at work, delicious can synchronize your bookmarks (quote, unquote). I suppose this would save alot of time and energy.

#13. Playing around with PBWiki
Monday 19 January, 2009
Sooooo ....
I've had a play in our manukaulearn@gmail.com sandbox and I've added an aside to the 'Favourite Recipes'. It wasn't an actual recipe, it was more of an ode to my favourite food, the humble egg (Eggs, eggs, glorious eggs ... if I had my way I'd be eating them all day, everyday!)
There were only about 7 recipes on the page (so there can't be alot of cooks out there in Library land) but the chocolate chip recipe looked pretty good - it's a shame there wasn't a video on how to make the recipes coz I'm more of a 'visual' than a hands-on cook!

#12. Learn about wikis and discover some innovative ways that libraries are using them
Monday 19 January 2009
Alrighty then!
I've checked out Wikipedia and it looks pretty cool - it has over 2 million articles in english and the language list is as long as your arm!
I've also read Meredith Farkas's article on 'Using Wikis to Create Online Communities' and some of her comments on how wikis could be used in Libraries are interesting. The only thing that concerns me and was pointed out in the article was that it could become problematic with spammers and malicious people vandalizing entries, but other than that wikis are very informative.

#11. Create a blog post about anything technology related that interests you this week
Wednesday 31 December, 2008
So ... anything technology related ...
What to say, what to say ... Does talking about the blogsite count?
I was checking out the blogs from other staff and who knew we had so many comedians out there? Princess Smutty otherwise known as grahamnortonssister is hilarious (I love the IPL comment - my sentiments exactly heh, heh) and the 'special effects' on some of them are pretty good as well.
I tried adding a playlist - which half worked, cos the list is there - you just can't play it! Doh!!
I have also added a few 'Blogs I'm following' to my Reading List which could, no definitely will, increase as time goes on ...

#10. Have some Flickr fun and discover some Flickr mashups and 3rd party sites
Wednesday 31 December, 2008
Woo hoo!
Fiorgive me, it has been 4 months since my last blog (that's what happens when you start going blind - the important stuff (heh heh) gets put on hold!)
Anyways ...
I have had a look at fd toys and it's amazing the stuff you can do with digital photos - it makes me want to get out there, purchase a cheapo digital camera and start creating my own montagr. Sadly I have to put off this endeavour cos I'm useless at 'crafty' stuff ... I'm more into looking at the pictures than creating stuff - not like all those librarians out there who actually create their own trading cards (aye Mack!). What's up with that anyway? Why would anyone want to create a trading card ...

#9. Explore flickr and learn about this popular image hosting site

Tuesday 12 August, 2008
Gee whizz ...
This Flickr website is a bit on the slow side (or maybe is's the hundreds of Manukau Libraries staff clogging up the site!)
I've typed in 'Cook Islands' in the search box and it only came up with 1 hit, but in that 1 hit there are over 3,000 pictures (wow!)
Sh here's my photo and where I got it from - I have to say the pictures are a bit on the small side, so if you're half blind you may have issues, but nevermind!

#8. Roll your own search engine with Rollyo
Friday 01 August, 2008
Right!
I've had a look at Rollyo, I've created my account (here's proof - just in case you don't believe me heh, heh) http://rollyo.com/jo20870/ and I've added a couple of websites to my list, mostly about cooking - even though I can't cook, I like to look at the pretty pictures, sigh and whisper if only...

#7. Take a look at LibraryThing and catalog some of your favourite books
Thursday 31 July, 2008
Phew!
That LibraryThing was a mission and a half! I've created my account ... http://www.librarything.com/home/jo20870
I've added 5 books .. This was a rush job (so I could go in the draw to win a prize ... I don't know, the things people will do to win a prize!) coz I looked over at our shelving trolley and picked out the first book and just copied the other titles that he had written ... I'll try and do better next time ... Honest!
I have to say it's easy to add stuff, but the things you have to read to find out how to do stuff ... too much ...

#6. Play around with image generators

Thursday 31 July, 2008
Voila!
I amaze myself sometimes ...
I'm a lousy cook - all I can cook are Scrambled eggs and toast, Omeletes and toast, French Toast ... It's a good thing my mum's an excellent cook, otherwise I could end up looking like an egg (heh, heh) ... which would be a BAD thing ...
I like the stickynote website - very easy to use.
#5. Locate a few useful library related blogs and/or news feeds
Saturday 26 July, 2008
Crikey!
I was looking at the Technorati website and the name 'Lou Ferrigno' just leaped out of the page! Who could forget that muscle bound green man flexing his pecs and going 'gggggrrrrraaahhhh'
But I digress ...
The newsletters need to ge 'Out of the box' and try to look more attractive - more pretty pictures for me to look at!!!

#4. Learn about RSS feeds and set up a Bloglines account
Saturday 26 July, 2008
Right!
I've created a Bloglines account and have subscribed to 10 newsfeeds (Coz that's how many we had to subscribe to) ... it's a good thing there were suggestions on the site ... otherwise I'd still be sitting here muttering 'what to do, what to do ...'

#3. register your blog and begin your learning 2.0 journey
Saturday 26 July, 2008
Okay!
I've made it this far (which means I've completed 2 things on my 'To do' list, apparently) - I've sent through my details to the 'Big Boss', which means "I'm in!' for a prize ... woooo hoooo!!!
Anyway, I've had a look at 1 or 2 blogs but, comeon!, there's over 150 on the list ... I could be there all year ...

#2. Set up your own blog and add your first post
Saturday 26 July, 2008
Well as you can see I've set up my blog and this is my 2nd post but, 'What the!' (heh, heh) ...
I've never blogged before so I needed a bit of help navigating the page (How do you do this? What does this do? ... etc), but hey, that's what friends (although in this case it's workmates) are for right?

#1. Discovery has never been so much fun ...
Sat 26 July, 2008
Alrighty then!
I'm sitting here, on this wet, icky Saturday morning, psyching myself up to participate in this 'Learning 2.0 challenge' ...
So, I've read the instructions on how to navigate through this program - my seatbelt is fastened, mouse in hand - Let's do this!
